Creating Capacity Through Connection
At Solace and Sanctuary, counselling begins with safety, connection, and respect for each individual’s pace and experience.
I provide evidence-informed counselling sessions that are grounded in person-centred, trauma-informed, attachment-aware, and nervous system-informed approaches. Sessions are paced according to each client’s regulation capacity, communication style, and developmental needs rather than a predetermined structure.

Many of the children, adolescents, and adults I support have found traditional therapy models too fast, rigid, or not suited to their sensory and relational needs. My practice is neuro-affirming, sensory-aware, and focused on strengthening emotional regulation, self-understanding, and functional life capacity.

I provide counselling support for neurodivergent individuals and for those who have experienced trauma, stress, or adversity. Counselling focuses on building felt safety, strengthening internal regulation skills, and supporting reconnection with identity, strengths, and personal resources. This approach reflects current evidence highlighting the importance of relational safety and regulation in supporting sustainable behavioural and emotional change.

Therapeutic Modalities
Sessions are tailored to each client’s regulation capacity, communication style, and therapeutic goals. Depending on individual needs, counselling may incorporate:
-
Talk- or experience-based counselling — including gestures, drawing, written expression, and storyboarding to support communication and emotional processing
-
Emotional regulation and self-management skill development to build coping strategies and functional life skills
-
Mindfulness and body-aware strategies to support nervous system regulation and present-moment awareness
-
Creative and experiential approaches to explore feelings, identity, and problem-solving in accessible ways
-
Nature-based counselling practices to support grounding, connection, and wellbeing through engagement with the natural environment
Approaches are integrated within a person-centred, trauma-informed, and neuro-affirming framework, and are adapted to suit developmental stage, sensory needs, and client preferences.
Where appropriate, sessions may also incorporate animal-assisted counselling with cats, dogs, and horses. Sessions may move between the house, yard, and paddock to support engagement, regulation, and relational skill development. Working within familiar, home-based environments and alongside animals can reduce performance pressure, support emotional safety, and facilitate participation — particularly for neurodivergent individuals or those who find traditional clinical settings overwhelming.

Equine-assisted therapy sessions are ground-based and integrate established counselling principles. They are individually assessed for suitability and aligned with client goals.
